V-Twin heart beats in unique car and bike crossover

7 November 2011

The heart of a Ducati 1198cc V-Twin beats beneath the body of a lightweight sports car in the Australian-made Spartan, set to be revealed to visitors at the Sydney Motorcycle & Scooter Show from November 25-27.

Dropping the 170hp (106kw) engine into an ultra-light chassis designed purely for track use produces incredible acceleration – the 350kg vehicle can travel 0-100km/h in just 3 seconds.

The Australian-designed and developed roadster is stripped bare of its roof and doors, with only a small windscreen sitting atop the carbon-fibre frame.

Fit-out with high performance components, the Spartan was created to combine the ‘at-one-with-the-machine’ feel of a motorcycle and the stability of a sports car.

1 of the 300 Spartan sports cars produced will be on display at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre event, and its two-wheel DNA is sure to make it a popular point of interest for visitors.

“The Spartan will definitely raise some eyebrows at the show,” said Event Manager Mark Petersen. “It’s been seen in a very limited capacity prior to this and we’re sure it will have visitors talking.

“It may appear a sports car but draws its incredible acceleration from the Ducati V-Twin.

“We’re proud to be showcasing such a unique Australian-designed and developed vehicle.”

The Spartan retails at approximately $90,000.

The Sydney Motorcycle & Scooter Show is Australia’s largest showcase of everything on two wheels, featuring a comprehensive display of bikes from all major manufacturers and products and services from a range of industry specialists.
