Cost and time savings boost scooter sales

11 November 2011

A 12.1% year-to-date increase on the sales of scooters suggest Australians are embracing the economic and time-saving benefits of two wheels.

The rate released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) compares the year to date totals of 2010 and 2011, and is a positive sign for the industry.

This month’s Sydney Motorcycle & Scooter Show is expected to further stimulate the segment, with a wide variety of options – entry level through to luxury – on offer from the likes of Yamaha, Honda, Piaggio, Vespa, Aprilia, Daelim, and more.

A scooter rider can expect to achieve excellent fuel economy, with a range of engine capacities, starting at 50cc, available.

Running costs are drastically reduced, and, coupled with an initial outlay for a new 50cc scooter at approximately a couple of thousand dollars, the economic benefits are obvious.

Commuters can benefit from a quicker trip with scooters able to cut travel time in half, and once at their destination, they benefit from increased parking spaces across Sydney.

Visitors to the Sydney Motorcycle & Scooter Show will have the opportunity to seek advice about models most suited to their needs.

“Sydney is a progressive city and has been very supportive of the use of scooters for commuting and leisure use,” said Event Manager Mark Petersen.

“The Sydney Motorcycle & Scooter Show will offer a wide range of scooters from major manufacturers who will each have staff able to answer all questions visitors may have, on-site.

“There will also be an extensive selection of aftermarket scooter suppliers offering safety gear, accessories and the latest apparel.

“FCAI figures indicate Australians are continuing to realise the benefits of scooter ownership at a growing rate, and we are hopeful that the show is able to increase these numbers in a time where people are searching for viable cost and time-efficient transport options.”

The Sydney Motorcycle & Scooter Show is Australia’s largest showcase of everything on two wheels, featuring a comprehensive display of bikes from all major manufacturers and products and services from a range of industry specialists.
